Special occurrences

Dealing with scriptwriters and protesting about the invitation and nomination policy

On January 10th, when the first invitations to the award ceremony were sent out, the screenwriter Kristin Derfler , among others, did not get one, although the multi-part Brothers , for which she had provided the idea and script, was nominated in the category Best Multi-Part . When asked, she found out that the German TV Prize, because there is another series category this year, has a problem with space and that it has therefore generally been refrained from inviting authors in the first round of invitations for all film productions.

She then complained in a Facebook post that in the first round of invitations in the work categories only producers, directors and editors were invited, but not authors. The Association of German Screenwriters also called in an open letter from the Foundation Council of the German Television Council to change the invitation policy. She has also received support from many producers and directors; For example, director Leander Haussmann called on Facebook to boycott the television prize.

Finally, on January 18, 2018, the founders decided, in deviation from the previous nomination practice, to nominate the authors together with the producers, directors and editors (on behalf of the team) in the categories of Best TV Film and Best Multi-Part . In addition, changes in the nomination practice for upcoming awards were promised.
