Sebastian "Basti" Schwele (born March 5, 1976 in Buchloe ) is a former German ice hockey player who now works as a sports journalist for TV stations in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Career

Schwele began his career in the 1992/93 season in the junior team of ESV Kaufbeuren , for which he also played in the following years. He had his first assignment in the DEL in the 1994/95 season for the Kaufbeurer Adler , where he was under contract until the 1995/96 season .

After he had gained his first experience in Germany's top division, Schwele moved to Munich, where he played for the ESC Munich in the Bayern League from 1996 before he went on the ice for the same as co-founder of the EHC Munich .

With the EHC Munich he rose in the founding season 1998/99 from the district league to the state league and in the season 1999/2000 he was immediately promoted to the Bayern league. For the 2003/04 season the promotion to the league was celebrated and after two years he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the EHC . During the 2006/07 season Schwele left the EHC Munich and signed a contract for the rest of the season with league competitor ESV Kaufbeuren.

In the 2007/08 season Schwele played at EC Pfaffenhofen in the Bayern League, in which he runs with the shirt number 16 and in the 2008/09 season Schwele was in the squad of EC Pfaffenhofen, but did not play a game.

Sports journalism

Schwele already worked during his active time from 2001 to 2010 for the pay-TV channel Premiere and Sky Deutschland . After a change of employer to ServusTV , he commented on games of the multinational Erste Bank Ice Hockey League from 2010 and of the highest German ice hockey league , the DEL, from 2012 . Since the change in broadcasting rights, Schwele has been working for Telekom Sport and Sport1 as a moderator and commentator for the DEL and the 3rd soccer league , as well as for the MySports broadcaster in the Swiss National League .

Furthermore, together with Erich Goldmann , Schwele has been commenting on the games of the German national ice hockey team and the ice hockey world championships on Sport 1 since 2011 .

In 2018, the Sport1 trio Schwele, Erich Goldmann and Sascha Bandermann was nominated for the German Television Award in the category “Best Sports Show”.

Since 2018 he has been commenting on Sport 1 as the successor to Elmar Paulke , who switched to the streaming service DAZN, and the tournaments of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).
