Matthias Stach

Matthias Stach (born December 19, 1962 in Braunschweig ) is a German sports journalist and commentator.

Life

Stach is a qualified sports scientist. He has been working as a sports journalist for radio and television ( Tele 5 , Sport1 , Sat.1 , Eurosport , Premiere ) since 1988 . He commented on games in the Bundesliga , 2nd Bundesliga , World Cups, UEFA Champions League , UEFA Europa League and tennis Wimbledon Championships on Sky until February 2012 . The volleyball Champions League , several major cycling events ( Tour de France , Germany Tour , Tour de Suisse etc.) as well as the moderation of various sports programs and magazines (ATP World Cup, Sat.1 breakfast television , daily ran etc.) were also part of his field of activity .

Currently (as of 2017) he is a commentator for tennis on the Swiss private broadcaster TV24 and on Eurosport. He also comments on Bundesliga soccer games, soccer summaries and swimming competitions for Eurosport .

Stach was active as a tennis player and played for over 15 years in the association and major leagues, for a few years he was a tennis ranking player. With the University of Frankfurt he was German university champion several times, won the South German team title with Kelkheim and was a. a. Finalist at the Hessian championships in doubles . Stach was both European journalist champion and world journalist champion in tennis singles and doubles.

He is married and has three children, one of whom is basketball player Emma Stach .

honors and awards

For his coverage of the women's finals of the Australian Open 2016 and the US Open 2016 , which Angelique Kerber won, Stach, together with his Eurosport colleagues Markus Theil, Marco Hagemann and Frederic Jouon, won the German TV Prize 2017 in the category “Best Sports Broadcast “Awarded. A year later, Stach was awarded again at the German Television Prize 2018 , this time together with Boris Becker .

Special

Since June 2018, Stach has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Elhadj Diouf Foundation, which, among other things, deals with the promotion of education, encounters and perspectives in Senegal and Germany.
