Marietta Slomka (born April 20, 1969 in Cologne ) is a German journalist and television presenter .

Life

Slomka's father comes from East Prussia , her mother from Cologne. After graduating from the Kaiserin Augusta School in Cologne in 1988 , Slomka studied economics and international politics at the University of Cologne and the University of Kent in Canterbury ( England ). She completed her studies in 1995 at the University of Cologne with a degree in economics. From 1991 to 1996 she worked as a freelancer for Medienspiegel at the Institute of German Economics in Cologne and from 1994 to 1996 for the Kölnische Rundschau (local and business editor of the daily newspaper). After graduating , she volunteered at Deutsche Welle in Bonn as well as in Cologne and Brussels . Until 1998 she also worked for Deutsche Welle as a European correspondent in Brussels.

From 1998 onwards, Slomka initially worked for ZDF as a parliamentary correspondent in Bonn, after the federal government moved to Berlin . Her focus in the ZDF capital city studio was financial and economic policy . In April 2000, she took over the moderation of the news magazine tonight . On January 29, 2001, she took over from Alexander Niemetz as a presenter at heute-journal . Since then she has also repeatedly worked as a reporter for heute-journal : in 2003 with reports from Eastern Europe on the occasion of the EU's eastward expansion, in 2005 from Germany for the Bundestag elections, in 2005 from Moscow and on the occasion of the 2008 Olympic Games from China. On the occasion of the Soccer World Cup 2010 she produced the two-part documentary Africa's Treasures for ZDF ; 2014 the two-part report Between Andes and Amazonia - with Marietta Slomka through South America. For the 2013 federal election she produced the documentary Wie geht's, Deutschland and also moderated two live discussion programs with top politicians and citizens on ZDF under this title. She also produced the annual review, Pictures of the Year , for ZDF and participated in documentaries such as The Power of Managers .

In 2002 Slomka was nominated in the category Best Moderation Information for the German Television Award and as Shooting Star for the Golden Camera . In 2003 she was nominated again for the German Television Award in the same category alongside Claus Kleber (ZDF) and Peter Kloeppel ( RTL ). In 2013, heute-journal received the German Television Award for the best information broadcast. In 2015 Slomka was awarded the Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize .

Private

On August 28, 2004, Marietta Slomka married RTL colleague Christof Lang in Schliersee, Upper Bavaria . In February 2013, they announced “that they separated by mutual agreement some time ago.” The couple remained childless. In 2019 she married for the second time.

Marietta Slomka has been the sponsor of the Bethel Children's Hospice for dying children since December 2009 .
