The show tonight was first broadcast on 4 October 1994 on ZDF. It was broadcast from Monday to Friday around midnight. The show was considered a latest edition of today messages and usually had a duration of 15 minutes. tonight dealt with topics and headlines from around the world.
By the end of 2011, the following ZDF news programs were also presented briefly and at regular intervals throughout the night until the morning magazine at 5:30 a.m., with the speaker sitting in the news studio and announcing the reports with images in a short version. The weather maps for the next few hours were shown at the end of the overview. From 2012, these programs were no longer available.
The last issue on May 15, 2015 was discontinued tonight . Since May 18, 2015, the program has been replaced by the news magazine heute + .
