heute + was a ZDF news program that was partly made up of content provided and discussed online and was broadcast on television from Monday to Friday around or after midnight . In addition, an interactive stream was broadcast on Tuesdays and Thursdays (on other days for special events) at around 8:30 p.m.

    concept

The unconventional format should critically question the “news mainstream” and offer “new, surprising approaches”. In order to reach a “younger target group ”, individual program contents were distributed in the ZDFmediathek and via the social networks Facebook and Twitter before they were broadcast on TV , and some were put up for discussion.

The show had replaced the format tonight .

2015 until the end of October 2018

    General

The moderators Daniel Bröckerhoff and Eva-Maria Lemke and from 2018 Hanna Zimmermann alternately moderated on a weekly basis.

On the day of the broadcast (sometimes several days before), selected posts were published on Facebook and Twitter. Viewers often had the opportunity to ask questions in advance, which were then incorporated into the moderation or asked to any guest who was invited.

The program was broadcast from Monday to Friday.

    Stream

At 11 p.m., a broadcast from the ZDF news studio was already broadcast live via the ZDFmediathek, the ZDF app, Periscope and Facebook. The viewers had the opportunity to ask the moderators and possible guests questions during a live broadcast and to comment on their opinions. To read these, the moderator stood in the studio with a tablet (for Periscope) and a smartphone (for Facebook). This led to occasional gaps in the moderation process. The live switch and the comments it received were often recorded and cut into the live broadcast, which was later broadcast on TV. This stream did not take place with certain overlaps with other programs and was omitted without replacement.

    TV

Around midnight there was a broadcast live on ZDF. This was produced in the ZDF news studio. B. the heute journal is produced. Here there was only an occasional opportunity to join the discussion, as in the previous stream.

    The "Green Hell" stream

On Fridays, during this live broadcast on ZDF, there was the opportunity to look behind the scenes into the so-called “Green Hell” via Periscope and Facebook. You saw the moderator in front of the green screen as he moderated the show in front of the cameras. Between the recorded contributions (which could only be seen on TV and not in the stream), the presenter came to the viewers of the stream and answered questions about the topics of the show, the studio and general and personal matters. Since there were sometimes several minutes available, small discussions and a much larger exchange were possible.

    Aftershow stream

Occasionally at irregular intervals there was a stream on Periscope and Facebook after the TV show, in which the presenter discussed the show with the audience. Some of these had a length of around 20 minutes and allowed for a private and distinct discussion group. The topics of this stream were for the most part the topics of the previous broadcast.

In addition, there were various other streams, some of which were sent before the broadcast or partly from the mask. However, these streams were very rare and also irregular.

    Stream

The stream took place on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 p.m. (sometimes delayed). For special events, there were also special streams on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

The concept was changed to allow a longer discussion with guests and viewers, as there is no schedule and can therefore be broadcast for as long as the editorial team wishes. Nevertheless, an attempt was made to keep the stream as short as possible.

The livestream was produced in the heute + editorial team in a specially built mini-studio. There was no green screen here, but two monitors. The stream was accessible via the ZDFmediathek, the ZDFheute app, YouTube , Facebook, Periscope and Twitter. Live commentary on the broadcast was possible on all platforms. The comments and questions from the audience were either read out by the moderator and, if necessary, commented or answered or passed on to any guest who was connected live. The comments that landed on the show were selected by the moderator, but primarily by the editorial team. However, the moderator himself decided which comments to read out. The guests to whom the viewer could ask questions in this stream are often known to the general public. Examples are Renate Künast , Boris Palmer or LeFloid .

Cessation of TV broadcast in 2020

Due to a revision of the ZDF news service, the production of the television program was not extended. Since June 22, 2020, the cross-media news program Today Xpress has been running temporarily on the broadcast slot . From September 7, 2020, the new format heute journal up: date will replace the program. The editorial team should continue to work online and continue to offer streams.

    Moderators

Today + since 2015, the moderation has been alternating between Daniel Bröckerhoff and Eva-Maria Lemke, who have shaped today + with their “personal view of the news day”. At the beginning of 2018, Lemke switched to the evening show of the RBB , which was followed by Hanna Zimmermann. With heute + there was no strict separation between objective reporting and subjective expression of opinion.
