Alexander Niemetz

Alexander Niemetz (born November 28, 1943 in Balsthal , Switzerland ) is a Swiss freelance publicist who became known through his many years of activity as a television presenter .

Life

Niemetz studied political science at the Free University of Berlin from 1963 to 1968 and then worked for various Swiss newspapers. He then worked as a press spokesman, initially for the CDU in Hesse and then for the later Federal Minister Christian Schwarz-Schilling . He then worked for ZDF from 1979 to 1984 , mostly for heute-journal , and from April 1982 also as a presenter. After 1982 he was, among other things, head of the main editorial department for news .

Between 1985 and 1991 he worked as chief reporter - often abroad as well - but returned to heute-journal in 1991 and remained there as deputy director until the end of 2000. According to ZDF, Niemetz left the station “at his own request” , but recently there were reports of “deep rifts” between the two parties.

Niemetz has been working as a freelance publicist since 2001 . He is the author of several specialist books and gives lectures on various topics at congresses and conferences. Before the 2005 general election , Niemetz supported Angela Merkel . The Tagesspiegel reported that Merkel had held intensive training with Niemetz before the TV duel with Gerhard Schröder .

Private

Niemetz lives with his wife Cordula in Zurich and has two children.
