The Rendsburgerstrasse loop is to the Rendsburg High Bridge subsequent circuit reversing loop in the course of Neumünster-Flensburg railway in Schleswig-Holstein . A good three quarters of the loop are designed as a railway embankment , while the last section in front of the high bridge is designed as a steel viaduct . The viaducts of the Kehrschleife are under monument protection.

purpose

On the Rendsburg loop, trains coming from the south to Rendsburg first make a 360 ° turn before they reach the Rendsburg train station after crossing under the high bridge . Conversely, after leaving Rendsburg, the 4.5 km long sweeping drive leads to the high bridge to cross the Kiel Canal . This section has a height difference of 42 meters.

Emergence

The first historical crossing of the Kiel Canal, a swing bridge , had to be replaced by 1913 due to its widening. In their place, a high bridge with a clearance of 50 meters should be built. This corresponded to the specifications for bridges over the Kiel Canal. At the same time, the existing train station should continue to be used. However, the station was too close to the canal to be able to connect it directly to the rail link at the specified height for the high bridge. Therefore, a railway embankment in the form of a loop was built at the northern end of the bridge from 1911 to 1913 .

Loop district

The district of Rendsburg created in the Rendsburg Loop also bears the name Loop .
