First broadcast April 5, 1988 on RTL plus

RTL aktuell ( own spelling RTL AKTUELL ) is the main news broadcast on RTL . The 20-minute program is broadcast live from Cologne on the evening before at 6:45 p.m.

Concept of broadcast

RTL aktuell is part of the news division at RTL. This has been built up and expanded in recent years mainly by the former editor-in-chief Hans Mahr . The RTL main news was available under the title 7 to 7 - The Pictures of the Day since January 2, 1984 from 6:53 p.m. with Hans Meiser , who also hosted the first broadcast on April 5, 1988, which was currently renamed RTL . The title "7 to 7" was chosen because in the beginning RTL plus was mainly watched via antenna on channel 7 from Luxembourg. With increasing cable and satellite reception and the relocation of the station to Cologne, the name and transmission time were adjusted to 6:45 p.m.

After a new edition in August 2004, RTL is currently broadcast from the so-called RTL-News-World . The aim was to be able to present the news from the virtual television studio in Cologne in an even more viewer-friendly manner. The aim is to offer “news to use” (service-oriented news with utility value). Particularly through the increased use of (animated and also three-dimensional) graphics, even complicated facts should be clearly conveyed to the audience. Since February 2008, the news programs for the entire RTL Group have been produced by its subsidiary infoNetwork .

Like the broadcaster RTL at all, RTL currently wants to address the “ advertising-relevant target group ” of 14 to 49 year olds. In this target group, RTL is currently in second place - just ahead of the Tagesschau , which has almost twice as high ratings in the total number of viewers.

In addition to RTL aktuell , this includes the morning magazine Guten Morgen Deutschland , the midday magazine Punkt 12 and the RTL Nachtjournal . These programs are only broadcast Monday through Friday. There are also short news broadcasts Mon-Fri at around 3:50 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. At the weekend RTL sends three-minute short messages around 4:45 p.m. and around midnight, which have not been announced.

The news program has been broadcast in 16: 9 widescreen format since November 18, 2008 .

On September 11, 2010, the new news studio went into operation with the 6:45 pm news. It is one of two new studios in RTL's new location in Cologne-Deutz . It is fully equipped in HD. The new design was also presented.

On June 10, 2014 the studio design was revised. A clear skyline is visible in the background and the theme graphics are highlighted.
