Ilka Eßmüller (born October 1, 1964 in Stolzenau ) is a German journalist and television presenter .

Life

education

Ilka Eßmüller graduated from the Albert Schweitzer School in Nienburg / Weser in 1985 . From 1986 to 1992 she completed her studies in American studies , politics , theater , film and television studies in Frankfurt am Main . She completed her Magister Artium with a grade of 1.

She also studied American studies and journalism from 1988 to 1989 in Baton Rouge in the US state of Louisiana . For this she received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service . In addition, she did internships at newspapers, radio and television from 1988 to 1991 . Among other things, she worked for ABC News in New York City and Frankfurt am Main, for Radio Bremen in Bremen and for NDR television in Hanover .

Moderations

From 1992 to 1994 Ilka Eßmüller worked in the VOX newsroom in Cologne . She has been with RTL Television since May 1994 . After three years as a reporter in the RTL Berlin office , she came to Cologne in 1997, where she moderated the early magazines Punkt 6 and Punkt 9 . In 2000, she was a reporter for the Summer Olympic Games in Sydney . From 2000 to 2004 she reported live from ski jumping . Ilka Eßmüller has been the presenter of various special programs since 2001, including the one on the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . In 2002 she was a reporter for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City .

Baby during two intervals of point 12 presenter Katja Burkard Ilka Eßmüller presented the Mittagsjournal of the private station in Cologne. As a substitute, she also took over the moderation of the main news program RTL aktuell . In January 2004 Ilka Eßmüller took over the moderation of RTL aktuell Weekend (weekend edition of RTL aktuell ) as the successor to Susanne Kronzucker , who from then on presented the RTL Nachtjournal .

Ilka Eßmüller has been moderating RTL Nachtjournal since January 2, 2008 , also here as the successor to Susanne Kronzucker.

In 2002 Eßmüller married the trauma surgeon and orthopedic surgeon Boris Büttner. Their son was born in January 2010. In late 2014, the couple adopted a girl from Haiti .
