The Albert Schweitzer School in Nienburg / Weser is one of several Nienburg high schools. The school, with grades five to twelve, is attended by around 1,100 students.

history

The origins of the grammar school go back to the middle class Latin school in the Nienburg residence from the 16th century. The current (main) building of the Albert Schweitzer School was built between 1904 and 1906 as a royal (Prussian) Progymnasium .

The rowing team, which is still very successful today, is founded in 1912. Numerous championships can be won over time. After the war, in 1949, the school was the first in Germany to be named after Albert Schweitzer with his personal consent. In 1971, the earlier separation of the sexes was abolished , the Albert Schweitzer School has been a high school for boys with a grammar school since 1941 , so that the two grammar schools opposite (Albert Schweitzer School and Hindenburg School, today: Marion Dönhoff grammar school ) around the high school students compete.

With the dissolution of the orientation levels in Lower Saxony, a branch of the Albert Schweitzer School was set up in Nordertorstriftweg (formerly Nienburg orientation level) for grades 5, 6 and 7.

Projects

In addition to the rowing team, the working group "India", which has existed for a number of years, is worth mentioning, which works together with the association Arivu - Future Through Education and tries to promote educational projects in Neerpair .

There is an exchange with partner schools in the partner cities of Nienburg, Las Cruces (New Mexico), Bartoszyce (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) and Yvetot (Seine-Maritime Department). United StatesUnited States PolandPoland FranceFrance
