Hans Mahr (born May 17, 1949 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist and media manager .

Life

Mahr attended elementary school, later the grammar school in Vienna and passed his Matura in 1967 at the Hernalser grammar school Geblergasse . He then began studying economics and also worked as a local reporter for the Neue Zeitung . In 1968 he switched to the Express , for which he worked as a reporter for three years. From 1971 Mahr worked for the Kronen Zeitung , where he worked in the areas of local, feature and interior. From 1974 he headed the politics department of the Kronen Zeitung .

In 1977 he left the Kronen Zeitung and was office manager of the Mayor of Vienna Leopold Gratz until 1979 . Following this, he was responsible for election campaign management and public relations for Federal Chancellor Bruno Kreisky from 1979 to 1983 . After Kreisky's departure, Mahr returned to the Krone as an advisor to publisher Hans Dichand . In 1985 Mahr took over the management of the Austrian office of the private broadcaster RTL , and the following year that of the Stern office in Vienna. In 1989, Mahr was appointed managing director of the Kronen Zeitung by Hans Dichand . In 1993 Mahr became Vice President of the Association of Austrian Newspaper Publishers (VÖZ) in this position.

From 1994 to October 31, 2004 he was director of the Information and Sport division and editor-in-chief of RTL in Cologne . His successor as editor-in-chief was RTL news presenter Peter Kloeppel . Predecessors as RTL editors-in-chief were Egon F. Freiheit (1984–86), Volker Kösters (1986–88) and Dieter Lesche (1988–94).

In 1999 RTL managing director Gerhard Zeiler appointed Hans Mahr as deputy managing director. This office ended when the management of Zeiler was handed over to the Luxembourg television producer Marc Conrad , who left RTL in 1998 after differences with Mahr and Zeiler and was brought back from Zeiler to RTL on November 1, 2004.

Between March 2000 and March 2002, Mahr was managing director of RTL Newmedia. Since 2002 he has also been Executive Coordinator for Group Synergies of the RTL Group. Hans Mahr has been a member of the RTL Group's Operations Management Committee since 2002. As "Executive Coordinator Group Synergies" he is responsible for the development of overarching projects within the pan-European broadcasting group. From April 2003 Mahr is also the deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the RTL news channel n-tv.

In 2005, Mahr was appointed director of the newly created Sports and New Business department at (then) Premiere AG . At Premiere, Mahr was responsible for the sports program and purchasing broadcasting rights for sports events. In this context, Mahr also became managing director of the newly founded Premiere subsidiary Primus Sport, an agency for the transmission and marketing of sporting events. In his role as a member of the Board of Management, he was also responsible for the development of Internet and mobile communications offers and advertising marketing. Mahr also assumed overall responsibility for Premiere Austria. After losing the broadcasting rights for the Bundesliga, for which Mahr was held responsible, Mahr returned to the RTL Group in 2007 and was responsible for the Eastern European market and broadcasting rights for sporting events.

In April 2006, Mahr went into business for himself with his Cologne-based company MahrMedia. He also looked after Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher as a manager. Since the primary goal of negotiating a Formula 1 contract for 2008 and beyond was not achieved, Schumacher separated from Mahr.

  • In 2005 Mahr received the Steinfeder Prize for wine journalism from the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus .
  • In November 2011, Mahr was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the City of Vienna.

Private

Hans Mahr is the father of two daughters along with RTL point 12 presenter Katja Burkard , with whom he has been dating for the 1998th He also has two sons from a previous relationship with the Austrian journalist Conny Bischofberger . There is also his eldest son from his first marriage to his wife Maria.
