The Express was an Austrian tabloid .

It first appeared as an independent newspaper on March 26, 1958, one day after the Vienna newspaper war ended . It was founded by Fritz Molden and Gerd Bacher . In 1960 he was bought by the forward publishing house belonging to the SPÖ . As a left-liberal newspaper, it asserted itself in the 1960s as the third-largest newspaper in Austria. Differences about the content of the daily newspaper accompanied the economic decline from 1968. From 1969 the later Kronen Zeitung managing director and RTL editor-in-chief Hans Mahr worked as a reporter for the Express . In December 1970, the Express was taken over by Kurt Falk and Hans Dichand and finally merged with the Kronen Zeitung in April 1971 .
