Kristin Derfler (* 1965 in Vienna ) is a German screenwriter and former actress .

Life and career

Derfler was born in Vienna in 1965. From 1984 to 1988 she studied acting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg . She then worked at renowned theaters in Hamburg and Frankfurt under directors such as Robert Wilson and Einar Schleef .

She left the state theater system in 1992. Together with young theater artists from East and West Berlin, she realized several interdisciplinary projects. She appeared in television and film roles until 2001 and then officially ended her acting career in order to concentrate on working as a screenwriter. Derfler became a visiting student at the German Film and Television Academy (DFFB) and then took part in the one-year content development program at the Master School Screenplay Berlin , in which she developed her screenplay debut "Spur der Hoffnung", which was filmed in 2006 by NDR . She is the creator of television films such as It's Not Over , Ella's Decision and the two-parter Brothers .

Along with Annette Hess , Volker A. Zahn and Orkun Ertener, Derfler is one of the founding members of the scriptwriting initiative “ Kontrakt 18 ”, a voluntary commitment signed by more than 200 scriptwriters , which is intended to give authors more creative control and a say in the process of film production.

Within the film industry, she complains that the screenwriters are held in low esteem and calls for a higher priority, as no films are possible without the authors.
