The Scriptwriting Master School is a scriptwriting school in Berlin that offers training and further education in the areas of scriptwriting and dramaturgy .

It was founded in 1995 as an initiative of the then Filmboard Berlin Brandenburg by author and dramaturge Oliver Schütte . Her primary goal was to create a material development program for young professional scriptwriters and producers and thus counteract the educational emergency in the area of material development .

The seminar program offers further training opportunities throughout the entire writing process. In addition to developing your own material, comprehensive theoretical basics in the areas of characters, structure, alternative dramaturgies, tension techniques, style and tone, scene and dialogue, genre specifics and an overview of market-relevant aspects such as the German television and broadcasting market are imparted. Since 2003, the Script Online Master School has been running Germany’s first internet-based advanced training courses.

In cooperation with the TV Academy , the educational institution organizes the training to become an author for film and TV. The training conveys all the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required for the screenwriting profession. The aim of the training is to enable the participant to work as a screenwriter, storyliner / script writer. This program is supplemented by a. through the modules advanced training to become a dramaturge & editor and writing for daily soap & telenovela . All full-time programs have been checked for quality and certified to promote professional development .

The seminar rooms are located in Kreuzberg on Zossener Straße / near the Bergmannstraße promenade.

Over the years, many internationally renowned lecturers such as Linda Seger, Julian Friedman, Christopher Vogler , Roland Zag, Don Bohlinger and Philip Parker have taught at the school.

Some of the scripts developed by the graduates have been realized and awarded over the years. Kristin Derfler and Clemens Murath, for example, wrote the script for the television drama Hoheneck was yesterday . Clemens Murath received the German Screenplay Prize in 2001 for his book Im Schatten des Jaguar , Anne Wild was honored with the Baden-Württemberg Screenplay Prize in 1999 for her book My First Wonder ; In 2003 she received the Max Ophüls Prize . Marei Gerken, Step by Step participant in 1999, was awarded the German Film Prize 2004 for her unfilmed screenplay The Far Side of the Sea .

As part of the initiative to open up to European film, the Step by Step material development program developed by the educational institution in 1995 was carried out for the first time in 1998 in co-production with the Swiss Foundation for Further Education, Film and Audiovision FOCAL . In 2001 the Vienna Script Forum was added as a further partner. Step by Step was also supported by the EU's MEDIA program. The Step by Step material development program took place in 2005 for the 10th and last time.

The Scriptforum Conference , initiated by the educational institution, presented itself in the years 2000 to 2006 as a trade fair for scripts and story development including various workshops as a place for exchange and professional encounters in the industry. In 2004 Scriptforum also took place abroad and presented itself to a European and international audience with the one-day Scriptforum Conference Venice during the Venice Film Festival .

With Pygmalion , the second MEDIA-funded material development program that the school ran with other European partners, German authors have been offered an international material development program especially for children's film material since 2002.

In 2002 the educational institution was commissioned by the Berlin International Film Festival to organize the Berlinale Talent Campus . With this major project, the Master School Screenplay became active beyond European borders for the first time and has established itself as a partner on the international training market.

In December 2008, Oliver Schütte, the founder and long-standing managing director, retired, but is still there to advise the new management. The educational institution has been run by Eva-Maria Fahmüller since January 2009 .
