Association of German Scriptwriters

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of German Scriptwriters (VDD) is a professional association whose declared aim is to represent the interests of all scriptwriters working in Germany in public and in professional life.

history

On the occasion of a planned amendment to the Film Funding Act , which provided for the cancellation of funding for scripts, some film and television authors in Berlin joined the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Drehbuchautoren e. V. (AGD) together. From 1988, the AGD offered its members legal advice through a Berlin law firm for the first time. The name was changed to the Association of German Scriptwriters in 1991. Since 1995, there has been a cooperation agreement with the German Employees' Union in the art and media professional group, which assists in collective bargaining with public institutions.

Since 1989 the VDD has published a quarterly members' magazine, most recently under the title SCRIPT , which dealt with the content, aesthetic and copyright conditions of the screenwriting profession. The only German-language equivalent to the American written by was discontinued after the first edition in 2008 for economic reasons. The podcast keyword script of the Association of German Scriptwriters appears every three to four weeks. It introduces new authors with their filmed works, dedicates itself to a film or an event on the subject of film, television and screenwriting. Selected scripts can be downloaded from the website.

In 2000, the VDD and other European associations founded the umbrella organization of the European screenwriting associations, Federation of Screenwriters in Europe , based in Brussels.

Currently (as of July 2018) the association has around 550 members.

In October 2018 the VDD will host the 4th World Conference of Screenwriters (WCOS). The best scriptwriters from all over the world are expected in Berlin.
