Jean Claude Eugène Péclet (born February 10, 1793 in Besançon , † December 6, 1857 in Paris ) was a French physicist.

Péclet studied at the École Normale in Paris with Gay-Lussac and Dulong . In 1816 he was appointed professor at the College de Marseille, where he taught until 1827.

He then returned to Paris, where in 1829 he was involved in founding the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures (now École Centrale Paris ) together with Jean-Baptiste Dumas . There he was subsequently active as a physics professor and on the student council.

The Péclet number is named after him.
