Egisto Pandolfini (born February 19, 1926 in Lastra a Signa ; † January 29, 2019 ) was an Italian soccer player who took part in the soccer world championships in Brazil in 1950 and in Switzerland in 1954 with the national team of his home country .
Career
Egisto Pandolfini was born in Lastra a Signa, a small town in the province of Florence , in 1926. He began his football career in 1945 at Fiorentina , which he left after a year to join FC Empoli . But he was not happy in Empoli either and returned to his home club after playing for another year at SPAL Ferrara . When Fiorentina Pandolfini remained four years then. In 1952 he went on to the Italian capital for AS Roma . Since the Roma had just risen from Serie B and did not have their current strength, Pandolfini won no title with this club either. After four years in Rome, he moved to league rivals Inter Milan in 1956 , but where he could not really prevail and went back to SPAL Ferrara after two years. After another station in Empoli, Egisto Pandolfini ended his career in 1962 without winning a title, although he had played for three major Italian clubs. In total, he completed 316 games for various clubs in Serie A in twelve years, scoring 75 goals.
Egisto Pandolfini was also active in the Italian national soccer team . With the Squadra Azzurra he took part in the soccer world championships in Brazil in 1950 and in Switzerland in 1954 . In 1950 Italy was eliminated after the preliminary round, with the team suffering severely from the Superga plane crash that had happened the previous year , which killed the entire Grande Torino team and thus the body of the Italian national team. Pandolfini played in one game at this World Cup, namely the preliminary round against Paraguay (2-0) and scored the same goal to make it 2-0 against the South Americans . Four years later in Switzerland, the Italians did not make it through the preliminary round again. This time England and Switzerland presented an insurmountable obstacle. Egisto Pandolfini was used in the finals in both preliminary round matches of the southern Europeans as well as in the playoff for second place in the table, which they lost to the hosts. Again he managed a goal, namely the 1-0 in the 4-1 win over Belgium . Pandolfini did not experience a third world championship, because he ended his national team career in 1957 after 21 appearances in which he scored nine goals. In the World Cup qualifier against Portugal on May 26, 1957, he was again active as a half-striker together with Giampiero Boniperti .
