action

The film essentially sticks to the novel. In medieval Constance on Lake Constance in southern Germany , the beautiful Marie is supposed to marry the illegitimate son of Count von Keilburg against her will. As a result of intrigues , Marie is raped, imprisoned, tortured and whipped. Later she is taken in by wandering whores and nursed to health. Marie wants revenge . She earns her living through prostitution and, thanks to her beauty, ends up with the influential Count von Arnstein. With the help of the count and his wife, Marie even finds King Sigismund's bed , whom she needs to pursue her plan of revenge. When the prostitutes revolt because of poor living and working conditions, Marie succeeds in proving her innocence.

background

Parts of the film were shot at Rappottenstein Castle in the Waldviertel .

The co-production by Sat.1 and ORF was broadcast for the first time on October 5, 2010 and reached 9.75 million viewers on Sat.1 (31.2 percent market share) and 0.96 million viewers on ORF 1 (34 percent market share) . Former Sat.1 managing director Guido Bolten sees the film adaptation of Die Wanderhure as part of the program to offer the audience “big TV events” on Tuesday evening.

The filming of the film adaptation of the novel " Die Kastellanin " began on August 23, 2011 under the title Die Rache der Wanderhure . The film aired on television on February 28, 2012. A short time later, on November 13, 2012, Sat.1 and ORF1 broadcast the third and last part of the Wanderhuren series : The Legacy of the Wandering Whore .

criticism

This section consists only of a cunning collection of quotes from movie reviews. Instead, a summary of the reception of the film should be provided as continuous text, which can also include striking quotations, see also the explanations in the film format .

“[...] A goal for those who expect a realistic picture of the Middle Ages from Lorentz's books. Quite stringently in its own way, the film follows the novel in letting current mentalities appear in old settings, and then giving the whole thing up to an unreal universalism of human feeling. [...] 'Die Wanderhure', the 'Film-Event' of Sat.1, is in total better than feared and at the same time the prelude to a hot historical autumn for the station [...] "

- Jochen Hieber (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)

“[...] Films or books that take place in the past are popularly called history ham. With the 'wandering whore' one almost has to speak of history press meat, even if the film is very elaborately produced. [...] And so everything stays the same in the 'Wanderhure': The world is man's country, and even the sweetest sugar candy doesn't make life as a woman any easier. [...] "

- Meredith Haaf (The Mirror)

“[...] Light girls who are intimately connected in friendship move through muddy landscapes, indulge in bad men - and at the end of the church put themselves back into a state of innocence. If that's what viewers want to see, there you go. "

“[...] the film was shockingly bad. Only the goats that pulled the handcart - so, and now we dare to do something - of the hookers appeared to be Oscar-ready. "
