Meredith Haaf (* 1983 in Munich ) is a German journalist , author and editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . In 2007 she founded the feminist blog Mädchenmannschaft together with the authors Barbara Streidl and Susanne Klingner .

Life

Meredith Haaf studied history and philosophy in Munich. She worked for, among others, Jetzt , the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Missy Magazine - and was later a permanent writer for NEON . Together with Susanne Klingner and Barbara Streidl , she published the book We Alpha Girls in 2008 . Why feminism makes life more beautiful . In it, the authors propagate a modern, undogmatic feminism and defend themselves against biological gender ascriptions. In 2011 Haaf Heult published : About a generation and its luxury problems . In this book she criticizes the indecision and political apathy of her generation. In autumn 2018 Haaf published the book Streit! An invitation, a plea for a better culture of debate. Haaf is married to the journalist Patrick Bauer and lives with her family in Munich.

reception

The Zeit reviewer Alice Bota criticized the, in her opinion, confused mix of topics in We Alpha Girls and that in the book, of all things , tragic figures such as the late singer Amy Winehouse and the actress Lindsay Lohan are portrayed as role models for young women. She also criticized the fact that the authors “declare themselves to be girls again as established women”. In the taz the too youthful, naive language of the authors was criticized, while the "refreshing tone" of the book was praised in the Süddeutsche Zeitung . SZ reviewer Iris Hanika wrote that she would like to recommend the book to every girl.

Howls was highly praised in the Swiss Tages-Anzeiger , especially for the combative tone: "She shakes powerfully at the gates of the makers and the powerless, and one always thinks in amazement: She's only 28!"
