Alice Bota
Alice Bota (born December 15, 1979 in Krapkowice , Poland ) is a German journalist , political editor of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and a book author.
Live and act
Bota spent her early childhood in Upper Silesia and in 1988 emigrated with her family from Poland to Germany, where they settled in Hamburg . After graduating from high school in Pinneberg in 1999 , she first studied modern German literature, political science and sociology at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 2001 she went to Poland on a scholarship to study international relations at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan . She continued her studies in literature and political science in Berlin and Potsdam . She wrote part of her master's thesis in Warsaw .
In 2005 she went to the German School of Journalism in Munich. During her time at this school, Bota did an internship at the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , where she has worked as a political editor since 2007. Her main focus is on reporting on East Central and Eastern Europe . For the Tagesschau she reports as Zeit correspondent from Ukraine . She was several times a guest at the political talk show Press Club with moderator Jörg Schönenborn , among other things on the subject of “ Calm after the storm - does Ukraine have a future? ".
In 2012 Bota published the book “ We New Germans ” together with her colleagues Khuê Pham and Özlem Topçu . The book coined the term “New Germans”. Anna Reimann wrote in Spiegel Online : “ 'We new Germans' is not a sensitive description of the search for home, it is a very serious but never self-pity report about German lives that are still not allowed to feel like such ” and “ We new Germans ”shows that the hybrid identity of the authors not only makes life sometimes more difficult, but can also lead to more reflection on the other - to a more position, to more attitude. The authors provided the motivation for the book under the theme “ Our parents are foreigners, we are not. We are the new Germans. But what does that mean? " in front.
Bota lives in Hamburg.
