Die Kastellanin , second volume in the series Die Wanderhure , is a historical novel by Iny Lorentz , which was published by Knaur in Munich in 2005 .

Marie, the wife of bailiff Michel Adler from the Rhineland, during the Hussite Wars , disguised as a sutler , dares to search for her husband, who has been declared dead, together with her toddler Trudi, right in the middle of Bohemia .

time and place

The first volume in the series is from 1410 to 1415. It ends with the marriage of Maries and Michels. Since the couple lived peacefully together for ten years between the first and second volume and the plot in the second volume ran for about three years, it can be concluded that the plot was from about 1425 to 1427. This falls in the second half of the Hussite Wars , which lasted between 1419 and 1434. The action leads to the Electoral Palatinate as well as to Franconia and Bohemia .

action

As Vogt on the Sobernburg, Michel Adler skillfully and successfully manages the area around the town of Rheinsobern near the town of Rabenweiler. Ludwig von der Pfalz sends 36-year-old Michel to Bohemia to fight the rebellious Hussites. The knights in Michel's fighting force, especially Falko von Hettenheim , envy the landlord's son in command. When the troops encounter the army of the German Emperor Sigismund near Nuremberg , the greats of the empire are missing. Each of the princes has their own particular interests . Sigismund, who does not want to lose the Bohemian royal crown, moves ill-armed against the superior enemy. At the first contact with the enemy, the imperial army's weaknesses come to light. With his prudent defense strategy, the battle-tested Michel Adler prevents the emperor's defeat. For this, Michel von Sigismund is made Imperial Knight of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation .

As the fighting continued, a patrol led by Michel was ambushed. Michel is seriously injured by the Hussites. Falko leaves the bleeding man lying and lies to the emperor that Michel has fallen.

Marie gives birth to Hiltrud, known as Trudi, nine months after Michel's departure. The young mother, driven from Sobernburg, does not want to believe in the death of her husband and, disguised as a sutler, sets off with her baby in the direction of Bohemia.

A Bohemian rescues Michel, who received a serious head injury during the devious attack and can hardly remember his past. The rescued spent almost three years at the Bohemian Falkenhain castle of Count Sokolny, who was loyal to the emperor. The count, surrounded by the Hussites, sends a messenger to Nuremberg, begging Sigismund for relief . The request is granted. Marie joins the relief force and finds Michel. The emperor's supporters managed to escape west to Nuremberg. After Falko has died in a knightly duel against Michel, Sigismund enfeoffs the faithful Michel, who was believed to be dead, with Kibitzstein Castle near Volkach am Main .
