Andy Hanson

Andrew Anthony “Andy” Hanson (born March 7, 1932 in Falfurrias , Texas , † October 22, 2008 in Dallas ) was an American photojournalist .

His career began at the Houston Post , where he worked as a photo reporter while studying at the University of Houston . After graduating in 1955, he worked full-time for the Houston Post .

In May 1960 he moved to Dallas. He found a job in the newly created photo department of the Dallas Times Herald , which remained his professional fixture in the following years.

In 1996 the Dallas History and Archive Division of the Dallas Public Library acquired from Hanson over 23,000 photographs and approximately 11,000 rolls of 35mm black and white film made between 1960 and 1990. His portfolio includes images of national and local politicians, business leaders, singers, musicians, actors, sports heroes and comedians. It is the most extensive collection of contemporary documents on the history of the city that is accessible to the public.

Hanson died on October 22, 2008 at his Dallas home of complications related to his diabetes and heart failure.
