Harter Brocken: The bank robbery

The secret code is a German crime film by Markus Sehr from 2019. It was produced by H & V Entertainment GmbH on behalf of ARD Degeto Film for ARD . It is the fourth crime film in the Harter Brocken series with Aljoscha Stadelmann as the policeman Frank Koops.

action

Small town policeman Frank Koops is just about to carry out a general speed control on a country road in the Harz Mountains when suddenly an approaching car drifts off the road for an obscure reason. Koops immediately rushes to the scene of the accident, but can no longer help the driver much. As he dies, the man gives the policeman an envelope. When he opens it at the station, he finds two photos and the first part of a secret code. To solve this strange case, Koops first goes to the last job of the man whom he could identify as Simon Schürer. He had worked for a large pharmaceutical company and wanted to spend a few days in his holiday home in the Harz Mountains. There Koops unexpectedly meets his colleague Mette Vogt from Braunlage, who is supposed to clear up a break-in here. Back on his territory, a Claudia Böhm appears at Koops who claims to have been hired by Schürer as a bodyguard. Since she had allegedly already been paid by the man, she wants to help Koops solve the death of her client, who both suspect that it was not an easy accident. This suspicion is confirmed when suddenly Koops and Böhm are shot and it turns out that a professional killer is at work here.

The next day Koops meets Maria Joseph, who, like Böhm before her, reports to him. She has just such a letter as Schürer gave it to Koops. Your letter contains the second part of the secret code. The third part is said to have received an Annett Kruse and together the three should decide what should happen to the discovery that the sender of the letter had made. Shortly before his death he had handed the letters over to his notary, who had now sent them to the three recipients. The three of them do not know each other, but they should meet here in the Harz Mountains to decipher the code and make their decision - according to the scientist who was killed four days ago. A consultation with the notary is no longer possible because Koops has just been murdered. Together with Maria Joseph Koops goes in search of Annett Kruse, whom he suspects in the hotel in St. Andreasberg, but cannot find there. Nevertheless, the two manage to come closer to the solution to the puzzle. The sender of the letter had managed to find a way to develop a very effective cancer drug, but since there would be dangers to manufacturing it, he wasn't sure whether to release his discovery to the public. Therefore, three independent people: the scientist Schürer, the philosophy professor Maria Joseph and Annett Kruse should advise whether his formula should be used. For Maria Joseph it is clear, although she herself is terminally ill with cancer, that the implementation of the formula would not be responsible. The actions of the main company for which the discoverer had worked, and to which the formula legally belongs, would ultimately harm more people than it would benefit the sick.

In the meantime, Claudia Böhm has come out as an agent for the pharmaceutical company, who wants the formula at all costs, but is killed in an initial direct confrontation with Koops and the killer. He now uses Annett Kruse's life as a deposit for the formula and orders Koops to come to him. Koops and Maria Joseph make their way to a remote building complex where the killer is waiting for them. When Joseph hands the envelope with the formula to the killer, she rushes out the window with him. Since he was not prepared for this, he could no longer react accordingly. Both die and for the philosopher her early death has made sense of it. Koops frees Annett Kruse and learns that her son with cancer had participated in a study, which is why her opinion should count. But she too is of the opinion that the formula is dangerous and should therefore not be used. However, Koops believes that people should not have died in vain and publishes the formula for everyone and accessible worldwide on the Internet.

criticism

Thomas Gehringer from Tittelbach.tv said: "In the episode 'Secret Code', the tranquil St. Andreasberg in the Harz region becomes the setting for a wild and original thriller comedy about the last will of a molecular biologist." meticulous crime logic and instead entertains with speed, wit, sympathetic types and a little philosophical depth. "

At evangelische.de , Tilmann P. Gangloff said: "It is precisely the combination of completely different tones that makes the film so appealing and makes 'Harter Brocken' an exceptional series on German television."

Martin Seng fromquotemeter.de was also positive and wrote: The secret code “is ideal for good and exciting evening entertainment. The mixture of humor, desaturated colors, the confused but at the same time interesting case make this use of co-ops particularly appealing. Then there is the good antagonist, which so many other thrillers often miss. All in all, you don't get a tough chunk of meat here, but very good crime food. "
