Harter Brocken: Die Kronzeugin is a German crime film by Florian Baxmeyer from 2017. It was produced by H & V Entertainment GmbH on behalf of ARD Degeto Film for ARD . It is the second crime film in the Harter Brocken series with Aljoscha Stadelmann as the policeman Frank Koops. In this episode he tries to protect a key witness from her enemies who had previously caused a bloodbath among the officers of the Lower Saxony LKA .

action

Local police officer Koops rarely has much to do in his tranquil little Harz town. So he is again carving a soapstone figure when postman Heiner Kelzenberg brings him the mail. Mette Vogt also brings a bit of variety because she comes from the neighboring Braunlage district and practices shooting with co-ops. In the evening it gets really interesting, because Christiane Kuschnereit from the LKA Hannover appears in St. Andreasberg to accommodate a key witness who is to be kept hidden in a holiday home until the start of the trial against Kuzman Petrovic. Kuschnereit lets Koops, whom she knows from the time of her police training, about her plan so that he can inform her in good time of any abnormalities.

The next morning the day starts as normal, but then Koops notices how the postman comes towards him on his tour, where he has only just seen him drive in the opposite direction. Intuitively, he runs to the holiday home, where the wrong postman is knocking on the door and the disaster takes its course. The key witness, Kuschnereit and her colleague are killed by two contract killers who also die in the firefight. When Koops arrives, he learns from the dying Kuschnereit that the real chief witness is still alive and that only one double has been accommodated here in the holiday home. She gives Koops a phone number so that he can take care of Matilda Schönemann and bring her to Goslar for the court hearing by 9 a.m. the next day. In the meantime, Philipp Benedikt and Tobias Gottschalk from the LKA arrive and take over the further investigations. Koops cannot know that both are moles and work for Petrovic, so they immediately recognize that the actual key witness is not one of the victims.

Koops contacts Matilda Schönemann by phone and meets with her in the forest so as not to reveal her hiding place in the hotel. Schönemann doubts whether she should testify or rather withdraw, but Koops explains to her that she will then always live in fear of possible persecutors. So he can convince you to have him take you to Goslar for the trial date. For her own safety, he gives her a gun and sends her back to the hotel until the next day.

Philipp Benedikt and Tobias Gottschalk are recruiting two people to support them in their search for the key witness. You yourself get in touch again with Koops, who notices that the two are not interested in the well-being of the key witness. So he wants to get Matilda Schönemann away from the hotel immediately. He is surprised by Tobias Gottschalk and injured in the scuffle on the arm, while Gottschalk is killed. Koops and Schönemann have to hurry to escape the corrupt LKA people who have now tracked them down after discovering Gottschalk's body in the hotel. The fugitives retreat to the woods, where Koops knows his way around. In the meantime, Benedict has the streets blocked and searched for the two of them using the ring manhunt and helicopter. Koops wants to attract attention and sends Schönemann to a bus stop nearby, where she shouldn't be noticed on her own and can take the bus to Goslar. The plan fails because Benedict also has the bus stop monitored. Schönemann now meets Benedikt and his two helpers. She escapes across a street between two reservoirs, where the showdown now comes when Koops arrives with his two helpers Heiner Kelzenberg and Mette Vogt. Thanks to Mette's accuracy, Benedict and his people can be eliminated.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv said: “Often you don't need too many narrative inventions. In this story everything is understandable from the start. Transferred to the textual: It is a story made up of nothing but main clauses. The plot is straightforward, what is shown explains itself, the situations are accordingly clear, the bad guys are cool, the good guys are personable, not like the man from Hamburg-Mannheimer, but like an everyday fictional character: integrity, lonely, melancholy and yet at peace with yourself and the world. "

At the Frankfurter Rundschau , Harald Keller analyzed: “Again the script comes from the hard-working Holger Karsten Schmidt, who takes up the tried and tested pattern and varies it: In danger and in dire straits, a corpulent, thick-skinned, provincial bull, notoriously underestimated by his opponents, grows beyond himself. A little luck and good friends are not a disadvantage. ”“ Compared to other regional thrillers, it is noticeable that author Schmidt and director Florian Baxmeyer make use of local conditions such as ski lifts, tunnels and dams in terms of content and staging instead of seeing them as decoration alone. The landscape is put into the picture in such a way that it not only provides an arbitrarily interchangeable scene, but also illustrates the action. The photography contributes to the tension, just like the cut, which sometimes allows parallel, actually unconnected actions to act like reactions to one another. "
