Oreo is the brand name of a type of biscuit made by the US company Nabisco (a subsidiary of Mondelēz International ), which was first launched in 1912. The biscuit itself is similar to the Hydrox from Sunshine Biscuits (now the Keebler Company , a subsidiary of the Kellogg Company ) , published in 1908, and almost completely overtook it until the production of Hydrox was discontinued in 2003 (there was a special limited edition in 2012 100th anniversary at Sunshine Biscuits ).

Pattern on the biscuits

The classic oreo is a double biscuit made of two pieces that are darkly browned due to the cocoa they contain and are bound together with a white filling with a vanilla flavor . The biscuits taste chocolaty and tart, the filling sweet. There are a number of different recipes that use Oreos, such as shakes and pies. Different eating methods include dipping in milk or taking the biscuit pieces apart and eating them separately.

According to the manufacturer, a single Oreo weighs eleven grams and has an energy content of 222  kJ (= 53  kcal ). The physiological calorific value is therefore 2,017 kJ / 100 g (= 482 kcal / 100 g).

Oreo is also offered in combination with other products, such as ice cream , chocolate ( Milka ) or breakfast cereals . While fewer varieties are available in Germany, several different flavors are available in the USA.

Comparable competing products to the Oreo biscuits are z. B. Mr. Creamy ( Kaufland ), Ohio ( Biscoteria / Netto ) and Twins ( Galletas Gullón ).
