Detlef Soost (born July 2, 1970 in East Berlin ), also D! [ diː ] or Detlef D! Soost called, is a German dancer and choreographer who became known between 2000 and 2012 as a jury member and coach of the talent show Popstars .

Beginnings and personal life

Soost comes from East Berlin and grew up in a children's home . His mother was German and died when he was thirteen years old. His biological father came from Ghana , was a doctor and came to Berlin as a medical student. He was having an affair with Soost's mother, who was married. The marriage ended in divorce shortly after the birth. Detlef Soost's biological father denied paternity in court and died in 2006. Soost had only met him once.

Soost attended the Horst-Viedt-Oberschule in Berlin-Lichtenberg and trained as a tool mechanic in the Berlin-Marzahn machine tool factory . He gained his first stage experience early on at the East Berlin Metropol Theater and as a member of Detlef Heising's Modeexpress group . After the reunification he worked as a financial broker, among other things.

Soost has a daughter and a son with his former partner. The couple split in January 2009 after a ten-year relationship. He is married to singer Kate Hall , with whom he worked on the show Popstars . A daughter was born in February 2010. The family lives in Berlin-Mitte .

Soost was a choreographer from 2000 and from the second season from 2001 to 2012 a jury member for the casting show Popstars . He worked in 2004 and 2006 in the Swiss Talent Show Music Star of the Swiss television SF with. From the beginning of 2005 to the middle of September of the same year he moderated the magazine Super Illu TV on MDR . In 2005/2006 he moderated the coaching magazine Lebe Dein Leben! On ProSieben . - Live coaching with Detlef D! Soost . From 2005 to 2008 he was the moderator of the dance casting show DanceStar at the music broadcaster VIVA .

He is the founder of the dance school network D! 'S Dance Club and runs the dance school D!' S Dance School in Berlin-Mitte . He has developed show choreographies for more than 100 artists and staged the choreography of a key scene in the Leander Haußmann film Robert Zimmermann is amazed at love . In May 2008 the Panini Verlag published the magazine D! 'S Dance Mag for the first time . In December 2016 he again took part in Schlag the Star , winning against Thorsten Legat . From mid-September to mid-October 2017, Detlef Soost was the presenter in 22 episodes of a " Daily Talk " named after him and broadcast in the afternoon on RTL II . The last broadcast on October 18, 2017 achieved a market share of 4.5% and 160,000 viewers in the target group of 14 to 49 years.
