MusicStar was a Swiss talent show that ran in four seasons from 2003. It was based on the Austrian format Starmania and was one of the most successful entertainment programs on Swiss television . The winner received a record deal with Universal Music until 2005 . The other candidates were under an exclusive contract during the broadcast, which the record company could extend as desired. SRF worked with Universal to find a suitable management team for the winner. In the third season, Sony BMG Switzerland was responsible for MusicStar. In the fourth season SRF returned to Universal Music. A fifth season was not initially planned.

First season

The first season was moderated by Roman Kilchsperger and Nina Havel . It ran from November 2003 to March 2004 on SF 1 and achieved record ratings. Carmen Fenk from Sevelen in the canton of St. Gallen was the first winner. The jury members were Chris von Rohr , Arabella Kiesbauer and Elias H. Fröhlich. The latter was replaced by Ivo Sacchi, the boss of Universal Switzerland, after a Blick scandal.

Sebastian "Baschi" Bürgin is the most commercially successful of the ten MusicStars to date. His first CD was in the Swiss charts for a long time, followed by a second, equally successful CD.

Second season

The second season lasted from December 2004 to February 2005. On February 26, the audience chose 19-year-old Salome Clausen from Glis in the canton of Valais as the winner. The jury members Chris von Rohr , Mia Aegerter and Detlef Soost gave second-placed Daniel Kandlbauer better marks in the final , but the Valais woman won the title by just under 5000 votes.

Third season

The third season of Music Star lasted from January 7th to March 4th 2007. This was hosted by Andrea Jansen ("Joya rennt") and Max Loong (MTV Asia). The jury consisted of Noëmi Nadelmann , Roman Kilchsperger and Detlef Soost . The winner was Fabienne Louves from Emmenbrücke in the canton of Lucerne .

The ten finalists lived together in the Villa Sihlberg in Zurich. In the opening broadcast, Mike Marfurt and Tiziana Serafini, who fought against Sandra Wild for tenth place in the final, were eliminated. All other nine participants were directly qualified for the finals. The season’s first vocal coach was Artemis Gounaki , who was also a member of the jury on two dates (instead of Noëmi Nadelmann).

Fourth season

The castings for the fourth season took place in October 2008 in Bern, Basel and Zurich. From December 19 to 21, the 24 best candidates were invited to a workshop, during which the twelve Musicstar candidates who came to the live show were determined. The first three programs of the season were broadcast from small clubs ( Gaswerk Winterthur, Schüür Luzern, Bierhübeli Bern): The following shows took place in Theater 11 in Zurich-Oerlikon.

Roman Kilchsperger , Fabienne Heyne and Gölä were to be the jury members . The latter left the jury out of disappointment at the fact that Gioia Gerber was voted out of the program on February 22nd. In his place Artemis Gounaki took over , who already worked as a vocal coach in the third season. This season's vocal coach was Robin D., the choreographer was Rafael Antonio. Katharina Michel from Brienz was elected to MusicStar 2009 .
