In the first episode, Laura meets the police officer Jay, with whom she has been dating since then.
Faecal humor and ethnic clichés are often used in the series. Almost every episode also includes Sarah Silverman singing.

reception
The show's premiere achieved an exceptionally high audience rating of 1.8 million. For Comedy Central, this was the most successful premiere of a new series since 2004 ( Drawn Together with 2.2 million viewers).
The series was enthusiastically received by the critics. Tim Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle highlighted the ingenuity, audacity, indecent charm and relentlessly funny worldview. Entertainment Weekly's Daniel Fierman called the show "totally funny". In New York Tad Friend wrote that it was the vilest and one of the funniest sitcoms for years. Doug Elfman ( The Chicago Sun-Times ) compared the series to Chappelle's show .
The series quickly gained international recognition. In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Nina Rehfeld described the series as pubescent and coarse and described the leading actress as the “splatter queen among America's comedians”. Marc Pitzke from Spiegel Online compared Sarah Silverman with borate and focused on the heavy use of faecal humor.
The six-part first season aired for the first time from February to March 2007. Just eleven days after the premiere, Comedy Central gave the order for a second season with 16 episodes, which was broadcast from October 3, 2007 to December 11, 2008. The broadcaster cited the reason for the early extension of the contract that the series was the most-watched cable television show in prime time .
On May 12, 2010, Comedy Central announced that there would be no fourth season.
