G-Kat badge

Old additional sign "Exemption from traffic ban"

The G-Kat sticker or ozone sticker was introduced in July 1995 as part of the Ozone Act. Vehicles with a regulated catalytic converter are affixed to the windshield with a sticker indicating the license plate number . The limit value for the ozone concentration was 240 μg / m³. Both the law and the sticker turned out to be superfluous because only once in Hessen was a driving ban due to summer smog due to ozone alarms . The regulations were also replaced by the “ environmental badges ” in 2007/2008 . The G-Kat sticker has become meaningless and can be removed since then.

Plaque. The license plate was entered in the white text field .

The basic shape of the badge is a hexagon with a side edge distance of 67 mm. This means that the badge is significantly smaller than the particulate matter badge . The badge contains a white writing area measuring 57 mm × 19 mm for the license plate . There is also a seal of the issuing body on the badge, e.g. B. from TÜV NRW. The self-adhesive sticker was attached to the inside of the windshield . The handwritten entry of the license plate was made directly on the adhesive layer. This should actually be done with a lightfast pen, but the writing is often faded beyond recognition.
