Udo Walz
Udo Walz (born July 28, 1944 in Waiblingen ) is a German hairdresser . He is known for his prominent clientele and appearances in a wide variety of media. He also published two books.

Udo Walz was born the son of a professional driver. He has had a relationship with Carsten R. Thamm (* 1970) since 1994, with whom he established a registered civil partnership on July 26, 2008 . Walz lives with his partner in Berlin - Charlottenburg .
Life
At 14, Walz was an intern and then did his hairdressing apprenticeship in Stuttgart. In the journeyman's examination he was 598th out of 600 apprentices.
At 17 he moved to Zurich. A Zurich hairdresser recommended him to St. Moritz because Udo Walz confidently pretended to speak French as well as English. At the age of 18, he took care of the hairstyles of stars like Marlene Dietrich and Romy Schneider in St. Moritz . He was particularly appreciated for his updos. In 1963 he moved to Berlin and worked in the Salon Ina Sailer . In 1968 he became a partner of Heinz Schlicht, who runs a salon on Fasanenstrasse . The BZ brought a 1967 cover story on "the young hairdresser who had wanted actually to New York, but stayed in Berlin because it pleased him." Later a sick colleague arranged for him to make an appointment where he had to do the hair of a famous model at the time. From then on he was in demand at fashion events. At times he did the hairdressing of the title women in Brigitte magazine and the women in the Otto mail order catalogs . According to his own statement, Claudia Schiffer later helped him a lot. He even flew after her to New York in the Concorde. The social breakthrough came from the mid-1980s. In Berlin, the Allies had a great influence on who belonged to high society . The friendship with Richard Burt and his wife Gahl paved the way.
Today Walz is the owner of nine hairdressing salons, the first of which was opened in 1985 on Kurfürstendamm. Four of them are in Berlin - including the "main store" opened in 1993 in the Kempinski Hotel. -, one in Potsdam and three in Mallorca . Since March 2005 he has been running another salon on the cruise ship Deutschland and at Roseneck in Berlin-Grunewald. He sees his job more as a calling. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, he talked about closing all his shops in Berlin and opening a large Udo Walz megastore on Kurfürstendamm, including a terrace, café and bistro
His clientele is also a celebrity. These include or were among others Marlene Dietrich , Maria Callas , Twiggy , Sabine Christiansen , Désirée Nick , Sarah Connor , Claudia Schiffer , Heidi Klum , Julia Roberts , Naomi Campbell , Gerhard Schröder and Angela Merkel . In 1970 the later RAF terrorist Ulrike Meinhof was also his customer. The management consultant and publicist Gertrud Höhler explains this with the words: “He is a star. That is why stars are looking to be close by. ”Walz has been a member of the CDU Steglitz-Zehlendorf (Berlin) since July 2005 . The then still unknown singer Jeanette Biedermann began an apprenticeship as a hairdresser with Udo Walz after her secondary school leaving certificate, but she broke it off again. Walz did not pass a master craftsman examination as a hairdresser . After having passed several exams, he received an exemption, with which he is virtually equal to a master .
In October 2004, Walz declared on a television program that he was against same-sex marriage , that marriage "also has to do with children and procreation". On April 4, 2008, he announced that he and his partner Carsten Thamm would enter into a same-sex partnership. The partnership was registered on July 26, 2008 in Berlin-Charlottenburg .
On 10 May 2010 roll had a guest appearance on RTL - soap opera Gute Zeiten , occasion was the "growing up" of the soap opera. Walz also has a brief guest appearance in the third episode of Season 6 of Pastewka . As a result, The Narrow Margin of crime series SOKO Stuttgart rolling in 2012 had a supporting role as a customer of an upscale hair salons. Furthermore, in 2015 he was in the episode Where is Papa? of the television series Notruf Hafenkante as an alcoholic who needs to be hospitalized for a short time. Walz also had a section at Circus HalliGalli . In 2016 he was a guest on the ARD evening quiz show Paarduell .
