Jenke von Wilmsdorff (born October 16, 1965 in Bonn ) is a German television journalist , author and actor . He is a descendant of the noble family von Wilmsdorff .

Life

Jenke von Wilmsdorff grew up with his brother Winfried (cameraman, worked for RTL for 30 years) with his single mother. After graduating from high school in Bonn, he completed an acting training course in Düsseldorf . Since 1988 von Wilmsdorff has worked for various theaters a. a. in Bonn, Hof , Frankfurt and Aachen and in the 1990s took on supporting roles in well-known TV series such as Lindenstrasse , Tatort , Der Clown , Die Wache and Die Kommissarin . Also in numerous commercials for Mercedes-Benz , McDonald’s , Commerzbank , Renault etc. a. he participated. From 1993 to 2003 he was also an actor in the series Hidden Camera ( RTL , ARD ).

On the side, von Wilmsdorff worked as a radio presenter for the radio stations Radio NRW , Antenne AC and Aachen 100, Eins and as an assistant director for the television stations RTL, Sat.1 and ARD. In 2000 he wrote the screenplay for the Sat.1 film Die Blaue Mauritius .

Von Wilmsdorff gained greater fame as a reporter on the TV program Extra - Das RTL-Magazin , moderated by Birgit Schrowange , for which he worked as an editor and author from 2001. There he slipped into the Jenke category as ... in unusual professions or traveled around the world to crisis areas to document unusual and tragic stories. The most famous projects include For example, being the first journalist to take a boat from North African refugees to Lampedusa . He also slipped into the role of the pop singer Rico Diamond , under whose pseudonym he published the self-written single Das Spiel des Lebens . From March 2013 to March 2020 Wilmsdorff's own RTL documentary series Das Jenke-Experiment was broadcast. As early as November 2013, a pilot episode of the series Jenke - I stay overnight was broadcast on RTL , in which von Wilmsdorff accompanied Internet millionaire Kim Dotcom for a day and finally asked him to stay overnight. In November 2014, three more episodes of the series were broadcast, in each of which von Wilmsdorff visits a celebrity and another interesting personality at home.

Von Wilmsdorff published his views on the subject of fear and borderline experiences, which he gained during his numerous trips and experiments, in 2014 in the book Who dares wins: Life as an experiment , with which he also went on a reading tour at the end of the year.

Other television programs in which von Wilmsdorff appeared as a presenter were the 2018 reality action show head money and the reports Jenke makes courage! and Jenke About Life .

He has been married to his long-time girlfriend Mia Bergmann since 2015 and lives in Cologne and Leipzig .

He has been a testimonial for the ThermaCare heat pad since 2019 .

On May 1, 2020 it was announced that Jenke von Wilmsdorff had ended the cooperation with the RTL broadcaster. In June 2020 ProSieben announced that von Wilmsdorff would develop several new programs for the station in the future.

Wilmsdorff awarded the Juliane Bartel Media Prize 2012 for his series The Jenke Experiment: Jenke as a single mother . The extra report The merciless business with the flight from Africa was nominated for the International Emmy 2012 in the Current Affairs category. With bread can get moldy, you can do? His program Das Jenke-Experiment was nominated as Best Factual Entertainment for the German Television Award in 2014 and 2016 , and in 2017 there was another nomination in the Best Infotainment category . In 2019 von Wilmsdorff finally won the German Television Award in the Best Infotainment category for his programs Jenke makes courage! The Jenke experiment "The plastic in me: how the garbage makes us sick" was nominated for the International Competition of the NaturVision Film Festival 2020.
