The smartest German

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The smartest German was a quiz show series on ARD television. It was moderated by Kai Pflaume . It ran for the first time under the title “Der Klügste Deutsche 2011” in autumn 2011 with three programs in the evening program of ARD. In October 2012 a new edition was broadcast under the title “Der Klügste Deutsche 2012”, also with three shows.

The smartest German 2011

Between July 8 and July 31, 2011, a total of ten candidate castings for the first series of shows took place in various major German cities. The selection was based on a computer-based knowledge test. The auditions took place in a double-decker bus and were filmed intensively; these footage took up a significant part of the shows. As an additional element, various recordings were shown, in which recording teams in remote areas etc. a. on the coast and in the mountains to suggest that they had been looking for the smartest German "everywhere".

The best 100 brain acrobats then presented themselves to the jury consisting of Judith Rakers , Eckart von Hirschhausen and Matthias Opdenhövel , who selected twelve participants for the two semifinal broadcasts on October 22nd and 27th, 2011. There, four out of the two times six candidates qualify for the final show after completing a quick questionnaire and a practical assignment.

The third broadcast was the final for the title “The Smartest German 2011”, endowed with a prize of 100,000 euros for the winner. It took place on October 29, 2011. After going through several elimination rounds, in which the number of candidates (4 women, 4 men) was reduced from eight, initially in four duels to four, then in the four-round to three and in the three-round to two, the "smartest German" was finally to be determined among the last two candidates by telephone voting, which is not undisputed in terms of the procedure and the result.

Above all, Hirschhausen's appeal to take into account the shorter time to accumulate knowledge for the younger candidate when voting remained controversial. With 86.3 percent of the audience, the 26-year-old student Sebastian Runde was the winner. Second place was taken by insurance specialist Michael Buscher (44), and third place by pilot Julia Peukert (30).

The show series was produced by the i & u TV television production company.

The smartest German 2012

The production of "Der klügste Deutsche 2012" began with eight castings in May and June 2012 in major German cities again in the double-decker bus with additional appointments for castings in hotels, analogous to the concept from 2011. Various media announced that the three-person Jury Eckart von Hirschhausen was replaced by Frank Plasberg . Matthias Opdenhövel and Judith Rakers are again on the jury.

The first broadcast of "Der klügste Deutsche 2012" with the first semi-final of the quiz show was broadcast on October 20, 2012. The second broadcast of "Der klügste Deutsche 2012" with the second semi-final was broadcast on October 25, 2012, the final on October 27, 2012.

The candidates had to pass quick questionnaires again and then specific tasks. Eight candidates competed in the semifinals, four of which reached the final. Again, many recordings from the castings were recorded on the show. In addition, recordings from remote locations away from the auditions were shown again.

After several game rounds in which some participants were eliminated, the last two candidates had to face the audience vote. Norbert Kempinski was voted the winner with 54%. Second place went to Jochen Mocek.
