Frank Pullara

Salvatore Frank Pullara (* around 1937 ; † February 12, 2019 ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass , arrangement , composition ).

Pullara grew up in Rochester, New York ; He first learned the clarinet and began performing in professional bands at the age of twelve. He also played guitar, piano and double bass, which became his main instrument. At a young age he worked in Las Vegas to join Kai Winding's jazz band . The first recordings were made in New York in 1961 with the Mangione Brothers ( Spring Fever ). From the early 1960s he worked as a musician, composer and arranger for Sal Nistico ( Heavyweights , 1961), Joe Romano , Kathy Dodge , Barry Kiener , Dave Mancini , Jeff Tyzik and Steve Gadd .

Pullara wrote "Not Too Serious" for Chuck Mangione; his other compositions include "Foloio 1" and "Giving the Business". In the field of jazz he was involved in four recording sessions between 1961 and 2000. In his later years he continued to be active in the Rochester jazz scene; so he played around 2015 with Bill Dobbins and Mike Melito .
