Dave Mancini

Dave Mancini ( David Mancini ; born April 22, 1952 ) is an American percussionist , music teacher and composer .

Mancini studied at the Eastman School of Music , where he received the Performer's Certificate . He has performed as a guest soloist at numerous universities, high schools and junior high schools, giving workshops and master classes there. He also worked as a musician for Yamaha Drums , Zildjian Cymbals and Vic Firth Drumsticks and Mallets .

From 1971 to 1981 Mancini was a member of the percussion section of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra . He has also performed with musicians such as Allen Vizzutti , Bill Dobbins , Diahann Carroll , Joe Williams , Tony Bennett , Eddie Daniels , Urbie Green , Marvin Stamm , Jeff Tyzik , Don Menza , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Rosemary Clooney , Diahann Carroll, Maureen McGovern , Joe Williams , Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis and Bop Hope . In the early 1980s he worked for a year and a half with Maynard Ferguson , on whose 75th birthday he appeared in 2003 with the Maynard Ferguson Alumni Band .

More recently, he toured with trumpeter and former bandleader of the Tonight Show , Doc Severinsen , and has appeared with major symphony orchestras in the United States and Canada such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra , the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Toronto Symphony Orchestra , the Minnesota Orchestra , the Detroit Symphony Orchestra , the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra , the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra .

Mancini's recordings include Salt Peanuts and One On One with saxophonist Denis DiBlasio , Land of Make Believe and Tarantella with Chuck Mangione , Storm with Maynard Ferguson, Rogers and Leonhart with bassist Jay Leonhart , but also Béla Bartók's sonata for two pianos and percussion . As a composer he emerged with works for solo percussion and for percussion ensemble. He is also the author of the Drum Set Fundamentals .
