Denis DiBlasio

Denis DiBlasio (born February 27, 1954 ) is an American jazz musician ( baritone saxophone , flute , vocals , composition , arrangement ) and university professor.

Live and act

DiBlasio graduated from Glassboro State College in New Jersey. After acquisition of the Masters at the University of Miami , he was a member of the Big Band of Maynard Ferguson , with whom he spent five years as musical director. During this time he also developed his technique of scat singing ( Brass Attitude , Concord 1998) and worked as a composer ( Coconut Champagne ) and arranger. In 1988 he worked on Buddy DeFranco's album Born to Swing! With. With musicians like Daryl Hall and Joe Mullen , he made his debut album Catch Me in 1993 . In 2001 he worked as arranger for Diane Schuur and Ferguson ( Swingin 'with Schuur ). With his quintet he recorded the album Where the Jade Buddha Lives (Art of Life Records) in 2007 .

He is currently the director of the jazz program at Rowan University in New Jersey , where he directs the Rowan's Lab Band . He is also director of the Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies in Rowan.
