The International Association of Physics Students ( IAPS ) is a worldwide network for students and doctoral candidates. It organizes major international events such as the International Conference of Physics Students and gives its members an insight into the international physics community.

history

IAPS was founded in 1987 in connection with the International Conference of Physics Students. The German member is the German Physical Society , represented by its sub-group Young German Physical Society with around 4,000 members.

activities

In addition to the International Conference of Physics Students, IAPS organizes numerous events for young people, students and doctoral candidates in the 47 national and local groups (as of 2019). This includes scientific excursions to research institutions such as CERN or Wendelstein 7-X . At the PLANCKS physics competition, students can work in teams on tasks from theoretical physics. In 2019, 17 countries took part.

The International School Day has been held annually since 2015, when students go to schools to experiment with young people on a given topic. The first School Day was organized as part of the 2015 International Year of Light. In 2019 the School Day took place based on the International Year of the Periodic Table.
