Allen Vizzutti
Allen Vizzutti (born September 13, 1952 in Missoula , Montana ) is an American trumpeter , composer and music teacher .
Life
Vizzutti learned to play the trumpet from his father Lido Vizzutti. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music , Master of Music and Instrumental Music degree , and he was the only wind instrument player to date to receive the Artist's Diploma from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester , New York.
Allen Vizzutti plays both classical music and jazz and has worked with a wide variety of artists including Chick Corea , Chuck Mangione , Doc Severinsen , Frank Sinatra , Prince , The Commodores , Woody Herman . As a soloist, he has performed at the Hollywood Bowl , Carnegie Hall , Newport Jazz Festival , Banff Center for the Performing Arts, Montreux Jazz Festival , Charles Ives Center and Lincoln Center in New York.
Vizzutti has contributed to the recording of more than 100 film scores, including Back to the Future , Star Trek , Rocky II , Poltergeist II - The Other Side , Fire Fox , Dirty Harry Comes Back , Ten - The Dream Woman , News Fever - Broadcast News , The electric rider and 1941 - Where are you going to Hollywood .
He is also the composer of numerous orchestral works that have premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra , Phoenix Symphony Orchestra , Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tonight Show Band , among others . He has also made recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , the Woody Herman Band, Summit Brass and the London Symphony Orchestra . He has worked as a guest soloist with symphony orchestras around the world, including the Japanese NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Tōkyō Kōsei Wind Orchestra .
Vizzutti is a professor of trumpet at the University of Washington School of Music. He has also taught at the Eastman School of Music , the Banff Center for the Performing Arts, Kansas State University , West Texas State University , the Skidmore Jazz Institute , and the Trompeten Akademie Bremen in Germany. He is a regular lecturer at the American Band College at Southern Oregon University .
Vizzutti is a composer and a member of Ars Nova Press, Inc., a non-profit publisher dedicated to promoting high quality compositions by contemporary composers.
The Allen-Vizzutti method for trumpet is an internationally widespread educational concept for learning to play the trumpet. Many of Vizzutti's jazz and classical music publications, play-along recordings, works for music students, chamber music, and lecture works have been published by the music publishers Alfred, Southern Music Company, and DeHaske / Hal Leonard Publications. He designed and realized the instructional video "Steps to Excellence" for the Yamaha Corporation of America.
