Barry Kiener

Barry Kiener (* 1955 or 1956; † May 25, 1986 with Kingman (Arizona) ) was an American jazz pianist and organist .

Live and act

Kiener, who came from Rochester (New York) , worked in the bands of the drummer Buddy Rich in the 1970s , including the Buddy Rich Big Band . He played with Rich at a NDR jazz workshop in 1977. He also took part in recordings of Lionel Hampton , Mel Tormé , Danny D'Imperio and Turk Mauro . In 1980 he recorded two albums under his own name for the Phoenix Jazz label, Introducing the Barry Kiener Trio , with Tom Warrington (bass) and Danny D'Imperio (drums) and Live at Strathallan , with Frank Pullara (bass). In the field of jazz he was involved in 22 recording sessions between 1976 and 1980. Kiener died of a heroin overdose near Kingman, Arizona in 1986 while touring with Rich at the age of 30.
