Tom Warrington

Tom Warrington (* 1952 in Toledo , Ohio ) is an American bassist of the Modern Jazz .

Live and act

Warrington began his career in 1977 in New York City and played three years in Buddy Rich's big band and trio. In 1979 he was part of the band of trumpeter John McNeil ; he also worked with Stan Getz , Dave Liebman and Hank Jones . In the 1980s he moved to Los Angeles , where he worked as a studio musician with Freddie Hubbard , Billy Childs , Denny Zeitlin , Bob Florence , Joe LaBarbera , Mose Allison , Lennie Niehaus , Arturo Sandoval , Ron Kalina and Bill Perkins and Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney accompanied. In addition to his activities in the West Coast jazz scene, he was also involved in film and television productions, such as the soundtrack of Jodie Foster's film " The Child Prodigy Tate ". He performed in Randy Brecker's Quintet at the Hollywood Bowl , with Billy Childs at the Montreal Jazz and the North Sea Jazz Festival .

In addition to his work as a musician, he founded the Jazz Compass label with Joe LaBarbera , for which he also recorded two albums, and published some textbooks for bass ("Essential Styles I & II", "The Contemporary Rhythm Section", "MasterTracks" and " Crawl Before You Walk ”). He teaches on the faculty of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and holds a Masters Degree in Composition from the University of Illinois . Warrington released three albums under his own name on Jazz Compass , which he recorded with guitarists Larry Koonse and Joe La Barbera on drums.
