Lennie Niehaus

Leonard Niehaus (born June 11, 1929 in St. Louis , Missouri , † May 28, 2020 in Redlands ) was an American jazz musician ( alto saxophone ) and composer .

Live and act

After graduating as a music teacher, Niehaus u. a. 1951 with Jerry Wald , 1951 and (after his time as a musician in the Korean War ) from 1954 to 1959 with Stan Kenton and next with Bill Perkins . He also led his own bands with which he played West Coast Jazz .

From 1959 he composed mainly for television and for stage orchestras, held jazz courses at the University of Utah , gave concerts with Lalo Schifrin and wrote arrangements for Stan Kenton and Jean Turner . He also composed and arranged film music , was responsible for the soundtrack for the film Unforgiven and for Bird about Charlie Parker , which was released in theaters in the fall of 1988. He had known its director Clint Eastwood since 1953 and also set other films to music, such as Pale Rider, The Nameless Rider , White Hunter, Black Heart , Perfect World , Absolute Power and Space Cowboys . Niehaus died in May 2020 at the age of 90.
