White Hunter Black Heart ( White Hunter Black Heart ) is an American adventure film by Clint Eastwood from the year 1990 . The script by Peter Viertel , James Bridges and Burt Kennedy is based on the novel Viertels of the same name.

action

Director John Wilson and screenwriter Pete Verrill travel to Africa to prepare to shoot a new film. There, Wilson devotes himself to hunting elephants , although he agrees with his colleague that hunting is a crime against nature . The conflicts between the men are increasing.

Eventually, the tour guide Kivu dies trying to protect Wilson from an angry elephant. Wilson then stops hunting.

Peter Viertel, the author of the novel, was inspired by events during the filming of African Queen (1951), which he attended as a screenwriter. John Huston , the director of African Queen , hunted regularly in Africa while filming.

Eastwood's film was shot in England , Zambia and Zimbabwe . It grossed approximately $ 2.3 million in US cinemas .

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was an "exciting, for film fans enlightening portrait of the cinematic adventurer" that was loosely based on a partly fictional biography of John Huston , but had less to do with John Huston and more with Clint Eastwood.

Awards

The film ran in 1990 in competition at the 43rd Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for best film. He was also nominated for Best Director (Clint Eastwood) at the CFCA Awards.
