Stu Williamson

Stuart Lee "Stu" Williamson (* 14. May 1933 in Brattleboro , Vermont ; † 1. October 1991 ) was an American jazz - trombone and trumpet player of swing and modern jazz .

Stu Williamson was the younger brother of Claude Williamson . He became a professional musician around 1950 and initially worked with Billy May , Charlie Barnet , Skinnay Ennis , in 1951 with Stan Kenton and played in 1952/53 with Woody Herman . In 1954, he also turned the valve trombone to, played from 1954 to 1957 with Shelly Manne and from 1959 in the Big Band of Terry Gibbs . He also recorded records with Bob Cooper , Elmo Hope , Helen Humes , Marty Paich , Pete Rugolo , the Howard Rumsey Lighthouse All Stars , Lennie Niehaus , Bill Holman , Claude Williamson, Clifford Brown / Zoot Sims , Mel Tormé and Shorty Rogers .
