Ron Kalina

Ronald "Ron" Kalina (born August 4, 1928 - January 13, 2016 ) was an American jazz musician ( harmonica , piano , composition , arrangement ).

Live and act

Kalina started playing the harmonica when she was four years old. As a studio musician he worked in Los Angeles a. a. with Linda Ronstadt , Tom Waits , Burt Bacharach , Joe Williams , Anita O'Day and Johnny Hartman . For 14 years he was musical director and pianist for Gloria Lynne . He also worked with his New World Harmonica Trio on various film scores such as Shenandoah (1965), Mississippi Masala (1991), Magnolia (1999) and the TV series The Model and the Snoopers (Moonlighting) and The Simpsons . He also worked with Luis Munoz and wrote the song No More Mister Nice Guy with Arthur Hamilton . Kalina was involved in seven recording sessions in the field of jazz from 1982 to 2006, including the album Body Heat, Jazz at the Movies (Discovery, 1992), on which u. a. and Jack Sheldon , Ernie Watts , Bill Cunliffe and John Pisano participated. Under his own name he recorded the album Getting My Axes Together in 2004 , a. a. with Jim Self , Ron Eschete , John Pisano, Dave Carpenter and Joe LaBarbera . In 2008 the album The Odd Couple followed , which he recorded with Jim Self, Larry Koonse , Tom Warrington and Joe LaBarbera. Then he interpreted u. a. Oliver Nelson's classic Stolen Moments and the Charlie Parker numbers Confirmation and Donna Lee . Stylistically, his harmonica playing is reminiscent of Toots Thielemans .
