Helmut Brade (born July 23, 1947 ) is a former German football goalkeeper who played 117 games in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for Hallescher FC Chemie between 1970 and 1978 . Brade is a two-time young national player of the GDR.

Athletic career

Until he was 20, Helmut Brade was a goalkeeper at the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Chemie Leipzig , but was not used in their top division team. In May 1967 he had to do an 18-month military service and during this time he played for the second division army sports community Vorwärts Meiningen . In the 1967/68 season he was used there in four league games in the GDR league. After his release from the NVA , Brade joined the BSG Chemie Zeitz in November 1968 , which was also represented in the GDR league. Of the 20 league games still to be played, Brade completed eleven games.

After Zeitz was determined to be relegated at the end of the season, Brade moved to the upper division Hallescher FC Chemie in the summer of 1969 . There he was 2nd goalkeeper behind Ralf Heine and initially played in the GDR league team of HFC II. Only at the end of the season he was used in three league games. For the 1970/71 season, coach Walter Schmidt determined the 1.78 m tall Brade to be number one in the Halle's goal. Then Brade was used 19 times in the 26 league games. Until 1978 he remained the goalkeeper of the HFC. Since he had to pause again and again due to injuries, he was used only 95 times in 156 league games played in the seasons 1971/72 to 1977/78. In the GDR league season 1973/74 (after relegation) he was involved with 21 appearances in 22 point games in the immediate resurgence. In early 1971 Brade played two international matches with the GDR youth national team . In September 1971 he was affected by the fire disaster in the Eindhoven team headquarters of the HFC on the occasion of the UEFA Cup match against PSV Eindhoven .

For the 1978/79 season Brade was named as the first goalkeeper of the HFC in the published Oberliga lineup, but was actually no longer used. A year later, he was mentioned as a retirement due to termination of the active career. As a recreational footballer, he still played at BSV LW Rackwitz in the fourth class district class in Leipzig.
