Danny D'Imperio

Danny D'Imperio (* 1945 in Sydney (New York) ) is an American jazz - drummer and bandleader.

Danny D'Imperio first played piano, then trumpet, and switched to drums under the influence of Louie Bellson's music . At the age of twelve he had his first professional appearances in the band of his father, the pianist Robert D'Imperio. From 1957 to 1962 he played in local bands from Syracuse (New York) , eventually with various formations such as Pee Wee Hunt and the Salt City Six , before he derived his military service from 1965 to 1968, where he played in army bands. After his discharge from the army, he was a house drummer at the Three Rivers Inn in Syracuse; then he played in the Glenn Miller Ghost Band in 1970/72 and in the orchestras of Maynard Ferguson in the mid-1970s and in 1976/77 with Woody Herman . When Buddy Rich fell ill in 1983, he replaced Buddy Rich as house drummer at the Condon’s jazz club , he also worked as a freelance musician and recorded several albums for the VSOP label with his big band , the Metropolitan Bopera House , in which u. a. Greg Gisbert , Ralph LaLama and Hod O'Brien played and conjured up the spirit of the classic hard-bop era of music such as Art Blakey and Philly Joe Jones . Since 1988 he has worked as a freelance musician a. a. with the formation Gene Krupa Legend with Anita O'Day , Les Elgart and the Village Vanguard Orchestra.
