The city district Blasewitz is a city district in the east of the Saxon state capital Dresden .

Around 90,000 people live in the city district and thus around 16% of all Dresden residents. It connects to the east of the Altstadt district on the left bank of the Elbe . With effect from September 13, 2018, the day of the public announcement of the corresponding amendment to the main statutes, the name city district replaced the original name local office area. Accordingly, the local council, local office and local office manager became the new names city district council, city district office and city district office manager.

The urban district consists mainly of urban districts in open development and is nevertheless the most densely populated district of Dresden. Above all, today 's eponymous district of Blasewitz was a popular residential suburb of wealthy Dresden citizens. The dense settlement results primarily from the districts of Striesen and Gruna, where urban villas and urban multi-family houses were built in individual plots as early as the 1880s and which, despite the green area, resulted in a highly dense urban development: If you want to enjoy your life, move along Striesen was an advertising slogan of the time. While Striesen has been part of Dresden since 1892, Blasewitz was not incorporated into Dresden until 1921 due to the inflation in the years after the First World War and the household problems that the community could no longer solve.
