From 1957 to 1991, Dresden-West was a district of Dresden on the left Elbe , which comprised large parts of the west of the then urban area. The seat of the council of the city district was the Cotta town hall . At the head of the city district administration stood a city district mayor.

location

Between the Marienbrücke railway bridge and the Gohlis windmill , for example , the Elbe marked the northern border of the city district towards the Dresden-Nord district . The western boundary of the Dresden-West district was identical to the outer city boundary at that time and corresponds to the current border between the Cotta district and the villages of Cossebaude , Mobschatz , Gompitz and Altfranken . In the south-west, along the current outer border of Dresden, the municipality or today's Freitaler Ortschaft Pesterwitz and the city of Freital bordered. The southeastern and eastern border towards the district Dresden-South ran along the Dresden-Werdau railway and including the east of it lying rock cellar by the Plauenschen basic and further to about the bridge Budapest street where her on the Děčín-Dresden-Neustadt railway arrived . It followed it as the border line to the Dresden-Mitte district to the starting point of this description, the Marienbrücke railway.

As a result, the Dresden-West district comprised the entire current district of Cotta with the exception of small areas in Plauenschen Grund, Friedrichstadt and the statistical district 047 Wilsdruffer Vorstadt (Jagdweg), i.e. that part of Wilsdruffer Vorstadt that belongs to the district of Altstadt II . Friedrichstadt and outer Wilsdruffer Vorstadt are now part of the Altstadt district . The Dresden-West urban district had around 90,000 inhabitants and an area of 26.4 km².

history

On May 14, 1957, the Dresden city council decided to reduce the number of city districts from nine to five. The Dresden-West district was then created in June 1957 through the merger of two smaller districts that were only formed in 1950. District VI, located to the south, comprised the districts of Gorbitz , Wölfnitz , Naußlitz , Löbtau , Dölzschen and Roßthal . The northern district VII consisted of Cotta , Briesnitz , Kemnitz , Stetzsch , Omsewitz , Leutewitz and Friedrichstadt. At the time of its founding, the Dresden-West district had around 100,000 inhabitants.

From the five districts of the GDR era, ten smaller units were formed in 1991 to make it easier for the residents to identify and to bring them closer to the citizens. The term city district was replaced by local office area in order to distinguish itself from the nomenclature of the GDR era. Since September 2018 it has been called the city district again. Today the city district Cotta, the west of the city district Altstadt and the smallest western outskirts of the city district Plauen extend over the area of the Dresden-West district .

District Court Dresden-West

For each of the five Dresden city districts as well as the Dresden-Land district , a district court was responsible as the initial instance of ordinary jurisdiction. The Dresden District Court was superordinate to them.

The Dresden-West district court existed until June 30, 1990, after which the Dresden-Mitte district court, now the Dresden district court , took over responsibility for all five city districts and the district and handed them over to the Dresden district court on December 31, 1992 .
