geography

Cossebaude is located in the far northwest of Dresden on the left bank of the Elbe. Most of it is located in the Elbe valley basin , but extends up the Elbe slope to the Loess plateau of the Meissen highlands . In the east, Cossebaude borders on the Cotta district , in the south on the town of Mobschatz and in the southwest on Oberwartha , all of which also belong to Dresden. The community of Klipphausen is located to the west . The Elbe separates the town of Cossebaude in the north from the large district town of Radebeul and in the east on a 100 m long section of the river from the Dresden district of Pieschen . The most important bodies of water next to the Elbe are the lower storage basin of the Niederwarthaer pumped storage plant , the Tännichtgrundbach , which in sections forms the western town and city limits, and the Lotzebach . The area of the village of Cossebaude lies at heights between 101 and 240  m above sea level. NN . The former refers to the banks of the Elbe at the city limits in Niederwartha, which is the lowest natural point in the state capital. Cossebaude has a share in the Left Elbe Valleys landscape protection area between Dresden and Meißen .

history

The current town of Cossebaude was created in 1974 through the merger of the municipalities of Niederwartha (with the district of Gruna and the Am Fährhaus area, which until 1954 belonged to Radebeul ), Gohlis (districts of Nieder- and Obergohlis) and Cossebaude (with Neu-Leuteritz , which had been incorporated four years earlier ). On January 1, 1994, Oberwartha was added, but it received status as an independent village within the municipality of Cossebaude. When the community of Cossebaude was incorporated into Dresden on July 1, 1997 , Oberwartha left the community again and was also incorporated into the state capital as an independent village. The municipality of Cossebaude has since been called the locality of Cossebaude and belongs to the Dresden statistical district of Cossebaude / Mobschatz / Oberwartha .
