The Prohlis district is the southernmost district in Dresden . With effect from September 13, 2018, the day of the public announcement of the corresponding amendment to the main statutes, the name city district replaced the original name local office area. Accordingly, the local council, local office and local office manager became the new names city district council, city district office and city district office manager.

Due to its size, the Prohlis district borders the Altstadt district in the north . It consists of the following statistical districts:

It is divided into the centrally located new development areas Prohlis and Reick, the villa suburb of Strehlen, the former small town of Niedersedlitz and the districts on the outskirts of Leubnitz-Neuostra and Lockwitz, which consist of several villages. The entire structural and social structure of the city district is therefore very heterogeneous.

The city district is connected by three tram lines , several city and intercity bus lines, the Autobahn 17 , the S 172 and four stops on the Dresden S-Bahn .
